Advancing the Smart Grid On All Fronts
June 2, 2010
Tendril’s founder and President, Tim Enwall, was recently elected chairman of the Demand Response and Smart Grid Coalition (DRSG), a trade association that educates and provides information to policymakers, utilities, the media, and the financial community on how Demand Response and Smart Grid technologies can help modernize our electricity system and provide customers with new information and options for managing their energy use.
Tendril has been very active in influencing Smart Grid and Demand Response policy at both the state and federal level. Because we view such policy as among the fundamental market enablers of our industry, having Tim in this role gives us a strong voice in shaping the policies that will drive this industry forward.
DRSG has been very successful in advancing major legislation. In fact, the DRSG played a major role in getting the Smart Grid Investment Grant program authorized under the Energy Independence and Security Act in 2007. They were also a influential in the Recovery Act’s appropriation of $4.5B last year.
Tim brings to DRSG critical expertise. Tim’s role as an entrepreneurial founder in many small companies gives him a greater understanding of what it takes to run an organization – from revenue generation and marketing activities, to operations and member support – as well as the interplay between business results and policy. This will be critically important as the federal government considers issues like consumer access information, climate legislation and the National Action Plan on Demand Response.
In fact, Tim was in Washington recently where he demonstrated Tendril’s technology solution to Energy Secretary Chu, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Chair Wellinghoff and Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chair Genachowski. We look forward to continuing to be a voice in legislative circles to ensure that our industry is well supported by thoughtful policy at the federal and state levels.
