All in a Day’s Work: Tendril Receives A Vice Presidential Shout Out and A Major Deal Down Under

May 23, 2011

“Now, more than ever, America’s future competitiveness depends on our ability to innovate and our capacity to live up to our rich history of technological advancement.”

Vice President Biden, NREL, May 20, 2011

We’ve been hearing for a while now that 2011 will be a make-or-break year for the smart energy industry.   If last Friday, May 20th, was any indication, it is certainly turning out to be the former for Tendril.   It’s a day that we won’t soon forget.

In fact, we are still reeling from an eventful day, last Friday—an inflection point in term’s of our growth trajectory.

The day began with the announcement of our first large-scale global customer, Origin Energy on the heels of which Tendril was lauded for its innovation in remarks by none other than U.S. Vice President Joe Biden.

Origin Energy, the leading Australian integrated energy company, will begin piloting Tendril Energize in thousands of customer homes in the second half of 2011 with potential for mass distribution to nearly 5 million homes.

On the same day, we were on hand at the National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL) where Vice President Joe Biden announced the first agreement under “America’s Next Top Energy Innovator” Challenge and outlined the Administration’s ongoing commitment to spur commercialization of technology.

During his remarks, the Vice President touted Tendril as a prime example of a company that is spurring U.S. job creation, improving consumer energy usage through home energy management, growing the economy, and helping America win the future.  He even called out the Origin deal to highlight how innovative companies, like Tendril, are fueling economic growth through export deals.

Indeed Tendril is booming.  In the last year our headcount as quadrupled and we’ve got more than 50 open positions.

We are humbled and honored by the recognition from the Vice President.  We’re thrilled to be partnering with a forward-thinking, customer-centric integrated energy provider like Origin—one that is well known for its commitment to sustainability.  We’re excited about the growth, the new opportunities, new customers and scale deployments.

From where we sit, all indications are that 2011 is going to live up to its billing and I’m looking forward to every minute of it.
