Book Recommendation: Building Wireless Sensor Networks
January 14, 2011
It is always a pleasure to experience the diversity of talent that surrounds me every day. A great new book authored by a member of the Tendril team, Rob Faludi, has just been released called Building Wireless Sensor Networks. It’s a fast-paced, hands-on guide that shows how to create distributed sensor systems and intelligent interactive devices using the ZigBee wireless networking protocol. The book takes readers through a series of useful and practical projects, including a complete ZigBee wireless network that delivers remotely sensed data. Radio networking is creating revolutions in everything from volcano monitoring to performance art, clean energy, and consumer electronics.
Currently Tendril’s Director of User Experience, Rob came to us as GroundedPower’s (GP) Director of Networking and Interactive Systems. The wireless networks he created are currently operating in towns and cities across Massachusetts and New York State, helping households achieve energy savings upwards of 10% per month. Rob was also instrumental in developing the GLANCE wireless ambient display that distills complex energy information into a real-time display that’s simple for people to understand. At Tendril, Rob’s work on employing sensor networks to create not just data, but trigger meaningful human actions is being used in a variety of pioneering energy efficiency projects and innovative utility programs.
Congratulations to Rob on an excellent book that presents its subject in a clear and lively way.
