GridWise Alliance Board of Directors

December 16, 2010

I am excited to announce my appointment to the GridWise Alliance Board of Directors. The GridWise Alliance is a Smart Grid advocacy coalition composed of public and private stakeholders with the mission to transform the electric grid to achieve a sustainable energy future.

My board membership presents a great opportunity to influence the advancement of the Smart Grid in major ways. I will be able to bring a consumer-centric perspective to the Alliance’s work, as well as to collaborate very closely with a diverse group of colleagues in the utility industry and beyond toward a shared goal.

Over the past two years, the Smart Grid industry has enjoyed great successes and struggled with tremendous complexities. Of those complexities, one of the most stark has been the reaction of consumers to smart meters and new programs being rolled out by utilities in many states. Of course, I am hardly the first to observe that both consumers and regulators are raising questions about the value of Smart Grid technologies. Left unanswered, these questions cause consumers to wonder whether the Smart Grid holds any value for them.

Tendril is focused directly on creating an experience for the residential consumer that is compelling and engaging. With over 20 projects in states across the country, I believe that we are building a knowledge base that spans multiple geographies and demographics. At the same time, in each of our ongoing deployments, we see the valuable role of policy and regulation. The GridWise Alliance is well-positioned to address the challenge of determining which policies will best benefit energy providers and the residential customers they serve.

I look forward to reporting back on our progress in 2011.
