Why the cloud?
Tendril has leveraged the cloud to build the Tendril Connect™ platform for one simple reason. Cloud computing is arguably one of the most—if not the most—innovative, efficient and effective IT models in existence today. It offers long-term advantages to not only individual enterprises but also the entire energy industry.
For many energy service provider and energy ecosystem enterprises, Tendril Connect provides a less expensive and less labor-intensive means for deploying energy technologies than purchasing and operating their own software and infrastructures. In addition, because Tendril hosts Tendril Connect on a private cloud, we can better service our customers (by more efficiently leveraging resources) plus pass on additional savings (achieved through optimized infrastructure management).
The cloud behind the cloud
Cloud computing encompasses different solution types, including infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS) and software as a service (SaaS). Tendril offers the Tendril Connect platform to our customers as a SaaS offering but employs an IaaS approach to do so.
By using a private IaaS cloud to power Tendril Connect, Tendril can deliver multiple benefits to our customers, including the following:
- Inherent limitations often associated with onsite enterprise software and infrastructure can be bypassed.
- Temporary peaks in demand on resources can be managed more easily using a shared pool of resources.
- When users in the U.S. are sleeping, users in Australia are using Tendril’s cloud-based resources, creating a natural load balancing effect.
- Balancing customer loads on a shared infrastructure enables a much more efficient and cost-effective use of resources.
