Vivint Integrates Tendril’s Cloud Platform for Energy with its Home Automation Service

Tendril to Connect with Vivint Go!Control for a New Era in Home Automation
and Energy Insight for Consumers

BOULDER, Colo. and PROVO, Utah–Aug. 16, 2011 –Vivint™, one of the largest home automation companies in North America, is partnering with Tendril, the provider of the cloud platform for the Energy Internet, to connect Vivint Go!Control smart home devices with Tendril’s home energy management technology.

Vivint will license Tendril Connect™, the cloud platform for use in the energy industry as well asTendril Energize™, a suite of applications including a home energy management web portal, to provide consumers with an active learning experience that provides insight into their energy usage and how to control consumption based on their specific goals.

“Tendril is a true innovator in the energy arena, and its powerful cloud-based platform was a natural choice for us because of its extensibility,” said Alex Dunn, COO, Vivint. “There really is no other platform with proven success in the market that can connect our growing customer base with actionable information, making their smart home systems even more powerful.”

For Vivint customers who already have a Go!Control in-home display, the Tendril Energize web portal will be available later this year. Beginning in early 2012, Tendril Connect will be integrated into the next-generation Go!Control panel, which is manufactured by 2GIG Technologies®. Go!Control creates a streamlined network that connects all of a home’s smart systems: security, HVAC, lighting, small appliances, video and other areas.

Recent research confirms the benefits Vivint home energy management customers can realize by utilizing this data. According to a study by Electric Power Research Institute, consumers who have the ability to monitor their energy use in real time reduce their electricity consumption by as much as 20 percent.

“This is a major milestone in the deployment of our cloud-based platform,” said Adrian Tuck, CEO Tendril. “Tendril Connect, well known in the energy industry, will now be part and parcel of Vivint’s home automation solutions, bringing Tendril into a completely new, yet adjacent, market. After just a short time in the market, they already have more than 70,000 customers with smart energy devices in their homes. We’re thrilled to help Vivint add even more value to their smart home offerings.”

Tendril Connect provides the open standards-based communications, extensibility and security necessary to support billions of networked devices. Built from the ground up to handle big data, it applies behavioral science expertise and analytics to generate the intelligence from connected devices needed to support the emerging marketplace of new services. More than 30 top global utilities, industry partners and leading manufacturers, including Whirlpool Corporation and Siemens Energy, subscribe to Tendril Connect to unlock value from networked products and services that consume electricity—from thermostats and electric vehicles, to refrigerators and set-top boxes, to integrated energy service provider demand response (DR) and energy management applications.

Built on Tendril Connect and based on field research grounded in behavioral science and cognitive psychology, Tendril Energize enables persistent and active consumer participation in managing home energy use with meaningful changes and results.

“We are committed to providing consumers with information and tools that give them more control over energy usage in their home – no small task, but one in which we and Tendril believe,” said Tanguy Serra, president, Vivint Energy. “Tendril’s cloud platform, with its industry-leading analytics, will empower our customers in a way never before possible, helping them improve energy efficiency, and reduce energy costs through home automation.”
