NYPA's Gil Quiniones and Tendril's Adrian Tuck Join SEPA Board

Oct. 31, 2018 – Washington, D.C. – Two top energy industry CEOs are joining the Smart Electric Power Alliance (SEPA) Board of Directors: Gil Quiniones of the New York Power Authority (NYPA) and Adrian Tuck of Tendril were recently elected to the Board.

Four incumbents were also re-elected for another three-year term: Seth Frader-Thompson, President, EnergyHub; Joe Hoagland, Vice President, Stakeholder Relations, Tennessee Valley Authority; Chris King, Global Policy Officer, Siemens Digital Grid; and Gary Rackliffe, Vice President, Smart Grids, ABB, Inc.
“The election of these two outstanding industry leaders underlines the importance that SEPA’s membership places on having diverse voices on the Board, from both the utility and technology sides. We want to provide a model for industry inclusiveness and collaboration; both are critical for moving the energy transition forward,” said Cris Eugster, COO of CPS Energy and Chair of SEPA’s Board.

The two new members are:
Gil Quiniones is President and CEO of NYPA, the nation’s largest state-owned electric utility. Under Gil’s leadership, NYPA has taken a leading role in Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s Reforming the Energy Vision (REV) initiative, aimed at empowering customers and encouraging the growth of renewables and energy efficiency. For this work, he was named SEPA’s Power Player of the Year in 2017. Before joining NYPA, Gil served in various positions in the administration of former New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, including more than four years as Senior Vice President of Energy and Telecommunications.
Adrian Tuck, CEO of Tendril, joined the energy management software company more than 10 years ago with the goal of building a smarter market for energy products and services. Before Tendril, he served as interim CEO and executive vice president of Ember Corporation, a leading semiconductor provider to the smart grid. Adrian played a significant role in the development of the ZigBee standard, serving as the vice-chair of the ZigBee Alliance.
“The Power Authority and SEPA have a common vision for a smarter, more efficient energy system, and a common understanding of the critical role of digital technology in moving toward that goal,” said Quiniones. “I am looking forward to sharing New York’s successes and challenges under the REV — Reforming the Energy Vision — strategy with SEPA and its membership.”
“Around the world, utilities and consumers are changing the way they think about and use energy — and Tendril’s mission is to help both, by improving interactions between utilities and consumers, and making home energy management more efficient and effective, for customers and the grid,” Tuck said. “Driving this type of change is a complex task, which is why it’s vital to partner with innovative organizations like SEPA, which understand the need for cross-industry collaboration and know what it takes to shape the power sector for the better.”
The SEPA Board of Directors is comprised of 17 members, including executives from utilities and technology firms, along with former policy makers.
“SEPA’s Board of Directors has always had a clear vision that our organization must evolve along with the energy industry,” said Julia Hamm, President and CEO. “The election of Gil and Adrian represents yet another stage in our growth, providing the organization with two strong, distinctive voices in the energy transition, who will add their experience and insights to our work.”
